TWHF Excellence Awards 2015

The idea to hold this awards evening came about after a series of visits to our schools and I was struck by the outstanding practice that existed and the quality of the experiences that our children were having on a daily basis.

Too often it is easy to just accept this as “the norm” – but when you work and support other schools outside The WHF family, it gives you a new perspective on what exceptional colleagues we have and how everyone goes the extra mile for the students in our care.

So we decided to celebrate all the amazing and hard working people that we are lucky enough to call colleagues and friends.

White Horse Federation – Basketball Tournament 2015

Nyland Campus took a squad of 8 players to compete in the WHF basketball tournament at Ridgeway School. The afternoon was extremely successful with all the team taking part in games against Mountford Manor and Drove.

Nyland started the Y5/6 tournament against Mountford Manor which saw both teams dribbling and passing the ball really well. Nyland created early opportunities and the effort was rewarded, Jayden scoring two early baskets. The game continued to be tight, again Nyland making their possession pay with baskets from Liam and Ethan . Mountford started to gain possession of the ball and in the last few minutes of the game shot 3 late baskets, making the final score 8-6 Nyland.

The second game saw Drove and Nyland take to the court and once again it was Nyland who started really well scoring 3 early baskets from Daniel and Jayden  making the game 6-0. Drove had some good possession of the ball only to see their efforts take a setback when Cody  stole the ball finishing off with style 8-0. Drove continued to work hard and got their rewards with 3 quick baskets 8-6 Nyland. Changes were made and Nyland finally took control of the game scoring a further 4 baskets in the last 5 minutes to make the final score 16-6 Nylands.

Well done to all the players who took part securing Nyland’s first win at a WHF tournament!

WHF Football – Nyland Record First Win

Nyland travelled to Rodbourne looking for that elusive first win of the season!  Joe  making his debut for Nyland didn’t take long to settle into the team scoring within the first 5 minutes of the game to make it 0-1 Nyland.  Rodbourne worked really hard to get their passing game together but it was Nyland that took advantage of a mix up in midfield allowing Ethan  to play a weighted ball through to Terry  who calmly slotted the ball pass the Rodbourne keeper to make it 0-2. Nyland were starting to play with real confidence and captain for the game Liam  dribbled his way through the Rodbourne defence to make it 0-3. Half time approaching Rodbourne started to gain possession winning a corner in the last minute, unfortunately hitting the Nyland keeper and going in off the post making the half time score 1-3 Nyland.

Rodbourne started the second half with real determination creating a number of shooting opportunities only to be stopped by a well organised defence thanks to Nylands Cody  playing a disciplined and motivated role.  With time running out in the game Rodbourne gave everything to try and get a goal back! The game finished 1-3 Nyland!

Man Of The Match – CODY
