Our Vision & Values

Our School Mission

  • To provide one ‘pathway’ for Swindon’s mainstream schools and settings to access support for SEMH pupils. To provide advice, intervention groups, training, and, where appropriate, short-term dual placements or long-term provision at Nyland School.
  • To promote an inclusive education ethos that supports primary schools and early year’s settings to successfully include pupils with social, emotional, and mental health issues.
  • To ensure an equal responsibility between home, school, pupil, and the local authority in bringing about positive and lasting change.
  • To facilitate experiences and learning that promotes emotional intelligence through an integrated emotional quotient curriculum and to teach the learning skills necessary for successful engagement, motivation, and thinking in order for pupils to progress in life and learning and become good citizens.
  • To set high expectations that believe in pupils’ potential while understanding their need.
  • To provide pupils with the opportunity for mainstream experience when it becomes appropriate to do so.
  • To help parents feel safe and welcome in school through family-orientated activities that encourage parent and child cooperation and positive engagement in the child’s emotional progress, skills, and learning.
  • To provide and match therapeutic input that is appropriate and relevant for the individual pupil and that is part of a ‘joined-up service’ where all professionals involved with the pupil share information that will ensure progress that involves the ‘whole child’.

At Nyland School, we actively promote British values through our school vision, ethos, agreed rules, curriculum, and teaching. As such, we promote tolerance of, and respect for, people of all faiths (or those with no faith), cultures, and lifestyles.

We prepare children and young people positively for life in modern Britain by supporting them through our words, actions, and influence, not just within school, but also within the wider community.

Promoting Our Values

  • Tolerance of those of different faiths.

At Nyland School, we value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils and families and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these. We have found this approach to be enriching for all parties as it teaches tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world. Underpinning all of this is a range of curriculum topics that have strong links to the British Empire. We actively challenge children, staff, and parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British values, including ‘extremist’ views.

As part of The White Horse Federation, we passionately believe that by working together, the children are able to have a higher quality of education, and that as colleagues, we will also benefit from and reap the rewards of a values-based organisation where no one is left behind.
