This week, from November 18th to 24th, it’s Road Safety Week. The need for a greater education on the dangers of the road is supported by some shocking statistics. According to the road safety charity, Brake, every 20 minutes someone is killed or seriously injured on our country’s roads.
With this figure considered, the theme for this year’s awareness week has been decided: ‘Step Up for Safe Streets’. Encompassed in this theme is the need for healthy and safe journeys. As a school, we are fully behind the campaign. In taking a formative step toward informing pupils on aspects of road safety, we are able to help them become safe and efficient road users.
Road Safety Week is an opportunity for children to gain an education on the risks of the road. It is with this education that the shocking statistics regarding road accident fatalities can be decreased. There remains a commitment toward safety at Nyland School that will continue long after the end of this week.
