We use a curriculum that is directly designed to meet both emotional and academic need appropriately for our cohort. This combined approach includes a deep understanding of social emotional and mental health need and how this impacts on emotional well-being and so academic learning. It takes into account that pupils need both therapeutic and academic input in a combined, systemic way.
This is underpinned by creating an environment that promotes a feeling of belonging, of being connected to others and of ‘relatedness’. Staff build and model secure, healthy relationships that pupils can learn from and recreate in their lives after and beyond school. On this foundation pupils can build their learning.
Our staff are empowered to facilitate this approach to the curriculum through robust training with built in sustainability through long term investment in specialist training and development of staff.
The school offers enrichment activities including horse riding, yoga, swimming, outdoor pursuits, Skills Force activities, arts and crafts, cooking, Forest schools and DT projects.
Our classes are small with a high adult to pupil ratio in order to meet specific need and we begin each day with ‘morning mindfulness’ and celebrate the diverse and unique qualities our pupils bring to each new day.
