Ofsted
Ofsted has updated how it reports inspection findings, introducing a clearer and more detailed reporting system for parents and carers. This page provides an overview of the latest report for Nyland School, along with guidance to help you understand the new inspection grades.
Understanding Ofsted’s New Grading System
Ofsted have designed new-look report cards with parents and carers in mind, to give you a clearer picture of what’s working well and where the next steps for improvement are — at a childminder, nursery, school, college or apprenticeship provider. They will no longer give one overall judgement, such as ‘good’, ‘outstanding’ or ‘requires improvement’. Instead, the report cards show colour-coded grades for different areas – the aspects of education that matter most to you - and Ofsted grade these areas on a new scale.

Our Latest Ofsted Inspection
Inspection date: 3 February 2026
Nyland School has been rated 'strong' in two areas and 'expected standard' in all others, meaning that Ofsted regards us as a high-performing school delivering excellent provision for our pupils.
The areas rated 'strong' were inclusion and personal development and wellbeing. Achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, and leadership and governance were all rated 'expected standard'.

Inspectors highlighted the school's inclusion strategy as "highly effective", noting that leaders make decisions that put pupils' needs first and that this approach has "a substantial impact on the achievement and experiences of pupils."
The school's relational approach was also singled out for praise, with inspectors noting that its personal development and wellbeing provision has a "highly tangible impact on pupils' self-esteem, self-belief, their improved behaviour, attendance and academic outcomes."
Among many highlights from the report, inspectors noted that pupils are accepted and celebrated as individuals, and quickly learn to enjoy school, and staff are "overwhelmingly positive and nurturing".
Inspectors also noted that Nyland’s attendance strategy is "highly successful", with absence rates consistently lower than the national average for pupils with SEMH needs, and that parents and carers are "highly positive about the difference the school makes".
