We are proud to announce that we have received a positive Ofsted report following an inspection carried out on 3 February 2026.

Ofsted has changed the way it reports on school inspections and no longer issues single-word judgements. Schools are now graded across a five-point scale from 'exceptional' to 'urgent improvement', with 'expected standard' the benchmark for high-performing schools doing everything they should.

Nyland, was rated 'strong' in two areas and 'expected standard' in all others, confirming that Ofsted regards the school as a high-performing setting delivering excellent provision for its pupils.

The areas rated 'strong' were inclusion and personal development and wellbeing. Achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, and leadership and governance were all rated 'expected standard'.

Inspectors highlighted the school's inclusion strategy as "highly effective", noting that leaders make decisions that put pupils' needs first and that this approach has "a substantial impact on the achievement and experiences of pupils."

The school's relational approach was also singled out for praise, with inspectors noting that its personal development and wellbeing provision has a "highly tangible impact on pupils' self-esteem, self-belief, their improved behaviour, attendance and academic outcomes."

Among many highlights from the report, inspectors noted that pupils are accepted and celebrated as individuals, and quickly learn to enjoy school, and staff are "overwhelmingly positive and nurturing".

Inspectors also noted that Nyland’s attendance strategy is "highly successful", with absence rates consistently lower than the national average for pupils with SEMH needs, and that parents and carers are "highly positive about the difference the school makes".

Georgina Birkett, Associate Headteacher at Nyland School, said:

"We are delighted to share this report, which reflects the commitment of every colleague at Nyland to making our school a place where pupils feel safe, valued and able to thrive.

"Our pupils arrive with a range of needs and previous experiences, and we are proud that inspectors have recognised the difference our team makes to their lives every day. We will continue to build on this strong foundation."

Jon Jones, Director of Education at The White Horse Federation, said:
